Rapid Prototyping Bootcamp: FlutterFlow + Design Thinking
AIS's first-ever rapid prototyping bootcamp: 60 students from CMU-Africa, the University of Rwanda, ALU, and Kepler College built six functional product prototypes in a single day.
What happened
On March 23, 2024, AIS hosted its first-ever training bootcamp focused on rapid prototyping. The event brought together 60 students from:
- Carnegie Mellon University Africa
- University of Rwanda
- African Leadership University
- Kepler College
The format
The day combined two complementary tracks:
- Design thinking session led by Prof. João Barros (CMU-Africa)
- Hands-on FlutterFlow training by experts from the FlutterFlow visual development platform, enabling students to ship across iOS, Android, Web, and Desktop
The output
Working in multidisciplinary teams of ten, students developed six prototypes addressing real societal and business challenges:
- A real estate agency platform
- A skill-gap solution targeting unemployment
- A seamless grade transfer tool
- An e-insurance platform
- A target-saving platform
- A personal expense tracker
Solutions were pitched to a panel of judges who provided constructive feedback, with selected teams continuing into a fall design-thinking and business strategy workshop.
