AIS hosted the annual Hult Prize on-campus hackathon, 17 CMU-Africa students across 7 teams, three of which advanced to the national stage with Moonsquare Limited finishing 2nd nationally.
What happened
On February 21, 2025, AIS hosted the annual Hult Prize On-Campus Hackathon, the local stage of the world's largest student social entrepreneurship competition. Seventeen CMU-Africa students formed seven teams to build impact-driven ventures aligned with the year's Hult theme.
Top three teams
- CheckMe, AI-powered breast cancer detection (1st place)
- Moonsquare Limited, gold-backed stablecoin for African B2B trade (2nd place; later 2nd place nationally)
- Umuganda Energy Finance, clean energy financing mechanisms (3rd place)
National results
Three teams advanced to the national level, with Moonsquare Limited finishing 2nd in the national Hult Prize round, confirming CMU-Africa's reputation for high-quality, mission-driven solutions.
Skills built
The competition pushed students through the full early-stage venture stack: problem framing, impact modelling, business model design, and live pitching.
